Matt Wells says Texas Tech QB Alan Bowman is ‘day-to-day,’ still undisputed starter

The Red Raiders are three games into the season and find themselves in a difficult position. Texas Tech sits at 1-2 (0-2) headed into Aimes, Ia. to take on no. 24 Iowa State. Like Texas Tech’s last opponent, the Cyclones are riding high after upsetting Oklahoma and taking the Sooners out of the AP top 25.

On top of the difficulty of playing in a stadium where Texas Tech hasn’t won since 2014, the Red Raiders could also be without starting quarterback Alan Bowman. The redshirt sophomore left the game against Kansas State with an apparent leg injury in the first quarter and did not return for the remainder of the game.

“Nothing’s broke. Nothing’s fractured. He’s day-to-day,” Wells said of Bowman’s injury.

When asked if his injury status would change who gets snaps with the first team at practice Wells said “if he doesn’t practice today then [you’ve] got

Wells Fargo CEO sorry for ‘insensitive comment’ on diversity

Wells Fargo & Co Chief Executive Officer Charles Scharf has apologized for making insensitive remarks around race and diversity, seeking to quell a row over his references to a shortage of talent among minority groups.

Reuters reported on Tuesday that Scharf had exasperated some Black employees in a Zoom meeting this summer when he reiterated that the bank had trouble reaching diversity goals because there were not enough qualified minority candidates.

He also made the assertion in a company-wide memo on June 18 that announced diversity initiatives as nationwide protests broke out following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, in police custody.

“There are many talented diverse individuals working at Wells Fargo and throughout the financial services industry and I never meant to imply otherwise,” Scharf said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Across the industry, we have not done enough to improve diversity, especially at senior leadership

Texas Tech, Wells deal with more than usual opener concerns

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech coach Matt Wells admittedly has all of the normal “first-week concerns” he has every season going into an opening game.

There is also that new variable that no coach can control, something the Red Raiders have already experienced while getting ready for the season that starts Saturday night at home against FCS team Houston Baptist.

“Coronavirus and the testing will be anxiety that coaches have the entire year, not just week one, because there are so many variables,” Wells said. “You could have major personnel challenges, and hurdles to overcome. Or you could have minimal (impact), in terms of either the numbers or maybe, somebody is positive that is not ready to play yet and wasn’t in the major part of the game plan.”

An outbreak during camp forced Wells to scrap a planned scrimmage three

Texas Tech QB Bowman relishes fresh start in Wells’ 2nd year

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Alan Bowman is ready for a fresh start as Texas Tech’s quarterback. This time, he’d like to be playing at the end of a full season.

Bowman likely could have returned from a broken collarbone to play in Texas Tech’s final two games last season. He opted instead to save a year of eligibility and turn his focus toward 2020.

“I was more comfortable, saying, ‘Hey, let’s take an offseason, let’s get bigger, faster, stronger. Let’s get another year in the offense,'” Bowman said this fall. “Let’s play a full season instead of coming back right towards the end of the season.”

While Big 12 teams are scheduled to play only 10 games in this unprecedented season because of the coronavirus, that would be more than Bowman played in either of his first two seasons. He has played
