Notre Dame moved up to No. 4 in the Associated Press and Coaches Polls after a wild weekend of college football. The Irish held serve, beating Florida State 42-26 after two weeks of no games.

Notre Dame leaped Florida in both polls after the Gators dropped a 41-38 game at Texas A&M.

There are two future Irish opponents in the top 10, and one is ranked in the top five in the AP Poll. Clemson remained No. 1 in both polls after its 42-17 beat down of previously seventh ranked Miami.

Spotify Developing iOS 14 Widgets in Latest Beta

One of the big new features of iOS 14 is Home Screen widgets, which provide information from apps at a glance. The ‌widgets‌ can be pinned to the ‌Home Screen‌ in various spots and sizes, allowing for many different layouts.

Many third-party apps have released ‌widgets‌, and now evidence that Spotify is developing its own official widget has appeared in a TestFlight beta.

The widget is currently available in small and medium sizes, with the former designed to display the artwork of the last played artist, song, or album, while the latter size shows four of the same content elements.

Unfortunately there are no play, pause, or next song buttons, since Apple only allows ‌widgets‌ to present read-only information, with interactive elements such as scrolling elements or switches not allowed, presumably due to battery life considerations.

Instead, both ‌widgets‌ include

Pakistan’s the latest country to ban China-owned app TikTok

Pakistan officials have announced a ban on TikTok after receiving complaints of unlawful content on the popular short-form video-sharing app. It’s the latest country to block the app after India instituted a similar ban and the U.S. attempted to do the same because of a squabble over who owns TikTok’s American business, which is currently the Beijing-based Bytedance.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said in a statement Friday that it came to the decision after TikTok failed to censor “immoral and indecent” content on its platform, the Associated Press reports. After receiving several complaints and petitions calling for the app to be banned, the authority gave TikTok a final warning in July to meet its guidelines and take down unlawful content (the Muslim-majority country has several media regulations intended to preserve conservative values), which the company purportedly failed to do.

The latest leak thickens the plot

At a virtual event on Tuesday, Oct. 13, Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 12. We’ve heard a lot of rumors about the new phone’s specs, price and potential 5G features, as well as the new phone’s charging capabilities. We expect that the iPhone 12 will feature wireless charging, as every iPhone has integrated that since the iPhone 8. But on Friday, leaker Kang posted on Chinese social media site Weibo that Apple will also introduce a magnetic iPhone MagSafe charger, using the same branding as the magnetic charging cables found in its older MacBook laptops.

US Homeland Security Funds Anti-Forgery Blockchain Projects in Latest R&D Round

A CBP officer inspects a shipment of flowers entering the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s research and development wing, the Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate, on Friday awarded $817,712 in total to five blockchain startups in a bid to reimagine the federal government’s anti-forgery and counterfeit prevention operations.

From creating digital Social Security Number alternatives to building e-commerce tracing systems, the winners have up to six months to develop blockchain proofs-of-concepts for DHS’ client agencies. S&T’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP), essentially an equity-free tech accelerator within S&T, is funding the round.

  • Spherity GmbH received $145,000 to develop a “digital twin” record of inbound e-commerce packages. The German company’s system would share critical information among parties without compromising privacy, SVIP said. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the client.
  • New Zealand-based MATTR LIMITED will build U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services a digitally issued essential worker license using its $200,000 prize. S&T officials said COVID-19’s work shutdowns have proven
