After Building Community At Nike And VSCO, Discord’s New CMO Wants To Help More Than Just Gamers Connect During Isolation

Tesa Aragones is hoping to use her past experience fostering communities in the photography and fitness worlds to now do the same for Discord’s growing social network.

Aragones, who left her role as the chief marketing officer of VSCO to become the new CMO of Discord last week, is now leading marketing for the San Francisco-based platform that allows people to chat in private conversations using video and chat features. And while it’s long known for being used by gamers since its founding in 2015, that categorization is quickly changing—especially during the current era of social distancing.

Building community within a platform is something Aragones is familiar with, having created Nike’s digital training community along with the brand’s first iPhone app and winning a variety of patents for various projects. And at VSCO, she focused her efforts on

Spotify Says Apple One Bundle Will Cause ‘Irreparable Harm to Developer Community’

Apple today announced Apple One, a series of new subscription bundles that provide access to various Apple services at a combined monthly price.

In response, Spotify sent out statements (via Peter Kafka) to the press decrying Apple’s anti-competitive behavior and calling on “competition authorities” to stop Apple before it is able to cause “irreparable harm” to developers.

Once again, Apple is using its dominant position and unfair practices to disadvantage competitors and deprive consumers by favoring its own services. We call on competition authorities to act urgently to restrict Apple’s anti-competitive behavior, which if left unchecked, will cause irreparable harm to the developer community and threaten our collective freedoms to listen, learn, create, and connect.

There are three separate Apple One plans that start at $14.95 per month. The standard plan includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage. Individually, these services would be priced

Library’s virtual summer reading program overcomes COVID restrictions | St. Tammany community news

Thanks to a series of virtual programs, the St. Tammany Parish Library’s “Imagine Your Story” summer reading program was a success, despite COVID-19 restrictions that prevented in-person events.

Teen Services Coordinator Jennifer Rifino briefed Library Board of Control members on the program results during a Sept. 2 Zoom meeting.

Participation in the program, which ran from May 15 through Aug. 8, was down significantly from normal levels, Rifino said, but enthusiasm among those who did participate was high.

Over 900 children registered for the program, as did 85 teens and nearly 200 adults. The library offered more than 150 virtual programs and events, attended by over 1,700 participants.

“I’m so proud that we were able to present a very robust summer reading program, as we do every year,” Rifino said.

In other business, the board received the audit of the system’s 2019 financial operations from John Murray, of the LaPorte

OpenEEW Formed to Expedite Earthquake Warning Systems | Community

A new coalition is building a low-cost solution to save lives in earthquake-threatened regions, rather than garnishing a profit from a new early-warning system. OpenEEW is an open-source IoT project with the goal to save lives by reducing the cost of earthquake early-warning (EEW) systems and accelerating their deployments globally.

The Linux Foundation earlier this month announced that it will host the project’s developer — Grillo — in collaboration with IBM. The project includes the core components of the Grillo EEW system, comprised of integrated capabilities to sense, detect, and analyze earthquakes and alert communities.

Nearly one-third of the world’s population live in seismically-active regions. At risk is the safety and survival of approximately three billion people living in earthquake-prone areas without early-detection systems that could cost upwards of US$1 billion to put in place.

A Project for a Safer Future

OpenEEW was created by Grillo with support from IBM,
