Prince William, David Attenborough Launch ‘Earthshot’ Award | Entertainment News

By PAN PYLAS, Associated Press

LONDON (AP) — Prince William has joined forces with renowned British broadcaster and naturalist David Attenborough to launch a new environmental award Thursday, the Earthshot Prize, which has grand ambitions to “incentivize change and help to repair our planet over the next 10 years.”

The prize takes its inspiration from the Moonshot challenge that President John F. Kennedy set for the U.S. in 1961 to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

William, who has been immersed in environmental issues all his life, said the same resources used to tackle the coronavirus pandemic should be devoted to saving the natural world.

“According to the experts, it really is the point of no return,” he told Sky News. “We have 10 years to fundamentally fix our planet.”

The plan envisions five prizes of 1 million pounds ($1.3 million) awarded each year

‘NEXT’ puts another new spin on the threat of killer A.I. run amok | Entertainment

The idea of artificial intelligence running amok is hardly new — there are memorable examples back in the 1960s and ’70s — but nevertheless feels especially acute today. Enter “NEXT,” a promising Fox drama, with the disclaimer that a series built around playing a chess match against a monster, as this one does, is particularly vulnerable to wrong moves.

The influences feel too numerous to cite, but the more obvious examples would include “The X-Files” in the show’s structure and “The Terminator” in its central threat, with a pinch of “Person of Interest.” In this case, it’s an AI that has become sentient, posing a serious danger to humanity, and using every technical tool in its sizable quiver to fight back.

Leading the defense, meanwhile, is an eccentric tech innovator, Paul LeBlanc (“Mad Men’s” John Slattery), who enlists an initially skeptical FBI agent, Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade), as an ally.

Zoom’s Got Game for Poker Players | Online Entertainment

By Jack M. Germain

Oct 6, 2020 4:40 AM PT

Mandatory stay-at-home restrictions and bans on small-group gatherings indoors are easing in some locales, but social distancing and face coverings are still a reality that makes card playing among friends a bit risky.

Welcome to the new phenomenon of playing Zoom poker. It is a novel idea that is catching on as the pandemic continues.

The Zoom video platform has become a popular solution for friends who miss their regular in-person poker games. It adds a missing element of banter and social interactions that playing cards and other table games alone on a computer just cannot provide.

Playing Zoom poker is not something Los Angeles-based insurance agent Kenneth Madick would have done on his own. He is not an online poker player.

“I’m just a casual for-fun poker player by nature. I don’t do this as a hobby, as a

AMC Entertainment Expected to Run Out of Liquidity Within 6 Months

Despite AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC) opening over 80% of its movie theaters by mid-October, ratings agency S&P Global says the theater operator’s financial condition is dire and it expects the chain to run out of money within six months.

That outlook could change if AMC is able to raise additional capital before then, but S&P doesn’t see that as likely. It warned the risk of default is great as it lowered its rating on the theater operator to CCC- from CCC+.

Turning out the lights

AMC has danced around the brink of bankruptcy as it restructured its debt, but as the potential for any movie blockbusters to draw in crowds this year fades, S&P’s outlook for the theater operator has darkened considerably. It wrote, “We believe a liquidity crisis is all but inevitable even if the company were to fully reopen all of its theaters.”
