Does This Green Dot Mean Apple Is Spying on You? The Answer Is a Little Bit Complicated

If you see a green dot in the upper right hand corner of your iPhone screen right by the WiFi and service symbols, don’t immediately start panicking. With the latest iOS update, Apple has implemented new security measures to let you know when applications are using your camera or microphone.

With the iOS 14 update in September, the tech giant added a new feature similar to what was already in effect for Mac computers with built in webcams. If you’re unfamiliar, on a Macbook, a green light next to the webcam will come on if the camera is in use. Now something similar will happen on your phone, with the green dot appearing in the corner. An orange dot indicates that the microphone is being used. If both are in use, only a green dot will appear (so, assume your microphone is on if the camera is on).

Familiar faces and a few new ones dot Gartner’s ad-tech Magic Quadrant (NASDAQ:GOOG)

The third Gartner Magic Quadrant for advertising technology shows some predictable development arcs for the companies within – but also a few surprises.

Starting with the less surprising, Google (GOOG, GOOGL) and The Trade Desk (NASDAQ:TTD) are ensconced in the leaders quadrant, AdExchanger notes, as is MediaMath, a longtime participant in the demand-side platform space.

They’re joined there by new players, though, including Amobee as well as Beeswax, Centro, MediaOcean and Zeta Global.

Meanwhile, Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) is still only a “challenger” for now. (Gartner’s Magic Quadrant distinguishes “leaders” from “challengers” as the former have the best composite scores in two criteria: “completeness of vision” and “ability to execute.”)

“Amazon appears to have the means, motive and opportunity to be an ad-tech leader,” says Gartner distinguished analyst Andrew Frank. “It’s a question of where the task of integrating their various assets into a seamless platform for advertisers falls on their priority

Best smart speakers of 2020: Comparing Google Nest Mini, Amazon Echo Dot, and Apple HomePod

In 2020, Amazon, Google and Apple are all making good smart speakers. The competition between these tech giants only pushes them to keep getting better. Amazon popularized smart speakers with the original Echo and the Alexa voice assistant, but today you have several options, each with their own pros and cons.

So how do you pick the best smart speaker for your needs? Well, the key differences largely come down to hardware size, price and audio quality. If you don’t need much oomph from your music and you’re good with a little lower audio quality, you can save money and get the same smarts in a smaller smart speaker.

Pretty much all of your options include multi-room audio and let you turn on the lights, play music, ask a question,

iPhone’s new ‘orange dot’ feature warns you when an app is listening

Many iPhone owners are seeing a strange orange dot appearing from time to time in the top right corner of their screen. The dot is part of Apple’s latest iOS software update, and is part of Apple’s ongoing campaign to provide better privacy services.

If you see the dot, it means an app is accessing your iPhone’s phone or camera. In many cases, this will come as no surprise—we use many apps precisely because they can take pictures or record a sound.

In some cases, though, app developers may seek to deploy the phone or camera without permission in order to obtain data. These include a controversial category of apps known as “spyware” or “stalkerware,” which governments or controlling partners install on victims’ phones to track them in secret.

Apple’s new orange dot feature may now help warn users that such activity is taking. It looks like this:

DOT soars past $5, flipping Chainlink for the 5th spot

  • Polkadot has, for the first time, made it to the top five with a market cap of $4.56 billion.
  • An increase in buying volume has supported the symmetrical triangle breakout.
  • If the resistance at $5.50 stays put, a reversal could ensue, sabotaging the gains made.

Polkadot has soared into the top five after displacing Chainlink. Data by CoinMarketCap shows DOT with a market cap of $4.56 billion. Polkadot entrance into the top five is not a done deal, considering Chainlink follows with a market cap of $4.51 billion. The question is, can DOT bulls sustain the uptrend?

At the time of writing, Polkadot is trading at $5.36, following an 18% spike over the last 24 hours. Breaking the stubborn resistance at $5.00, paved the way for gains eyeing $10. For now, trading above the seller congestion at $5.5 is the bulls’ priority because it will allow them to shift their

DOT breakdown to $3.50 seems imminent

  • Polkadot is holding at the edge of a cliff; fall to $3.50, critical support is gaining traction.
  • DOT/USD under the impact of a flag pattern hence the likelihood of a drop back to $3.50.

Polkadot, one of the fastest-growing governance cryptocurrencies, is working hard to overcome the resistance at $5.00. The fight for a breakout comes after a fall to support at $3.50. The massive breakdown occurred after DOT/USD traded a new high at $6.89 (at the beginning of September).

Before the breakdown, Polkadot rallied due to listings on a couple of the world’s largest exchanges; Coinbase and Binance. Just after the listing on Binance, on August 19, DOT hit highs of $5.75. A flash drop followed with the price testing $1.00. The token that promises to bring forth true interoperability and governance over the network then recovered to around $3.00.

Consequently, the last week of August resulted in massive
