PS4 update lets parents decide which games kids can and can’t chat in

Sony is giving the PlayStation 4 one more big update before the PS5 arrives, and it’s particularly good news for parents. A version 8.00 update releasing today makes multiple additions, including simpler and more adaptable parental controls. Limits on communication and viewing user-made content are now lumped together to make it “easier for parents to understand.” Crucially, kids can now ask for permission to use communications in specific games — you can make an exception if you know a young one will be talking to friends.

Not everything is positive. The 8.00 update removes user-made events and the creation of private communities. You can still use private communities that already exist, but they’ll clearly dwindle without the option to make more. Sony hasn’t explained the move, but we’ve asked for comment.

There are more additions that might offset that decision. Party and Messages are now more closely connected, with a

Louis Vuitton, Volvo Tapping Thai Social Commerce Via Line Chat App | World News

BANGKOK (Reuters) – Luxury fashion and auto brands in Thailand have turned to selling their products on Japanese chat app Line amid the coronavirus pandemic, tapping the country’s growing appetite for social commerce, a top executive said on Thursday.

Brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Volvo were among those that opened official accounts on the messaging app, which outranks Facebook’s WhatsApp and Rakuten’s Viber in Thailand, aiming to connect with users during a coronavirus lockdown.

“The luxury category was forced to adapt because their stores were closed,” Line Thailand chief commercial officer, Norasit Sitivechvichit, told Reuters.

Thailand earlier this year imposed a nationwide curfew and closed malls for nearly two months to contain infections.

“During the pandemic, sellers became very active,” Norasit said, adding that others sold cosmetics and fast-moving consumer goods.

Line, which charges sellers for sending messages and live streaming, said its monthly active users in Thailand grew

To keep your WhatsApp chat private, change backup settings now

A lot has been said about the privacy of WhatsApp chats in the past few weeks, especially in the light of chats that proved as electronic evidence for the latest NCB cases in India. India is the largest market for WhatsApp with around 400 million users. But the revelation that maybe private chats are not so private left most of the 40 crore users of WhatsApp in India a little insecure.

WhatsApp later gave out a clarifying statement saying that only the receiver gets to see the sender’s message with its end-to-end encryption feature. But in the same breath, the now-Facebook-owned platform stated that the backups of these chats in cloud platforms, either Google Drive or iCloud, are not end-to-end encrypted and can be accessed or hacked into.

One method users can put to use if they are not very keen on storing their chat backups that can be accessed

Facebook Integrates Messenger Chat With Instagram

Facebook  (FB) – Get Report said on Wednesday that it would incorporate its Messenger service with Instagram’s direct messages, enabling the apps’ users to directly communicate with each other through calls and chats.

Users can also control where and whether they receive messages and calls — in their chats or message requests, or not at all according to the company’s privacy control policies, the Menlo Park, Calif., social-media giant said in a statement.

With the new update, Facebook is changing how users can control their privacy, including tools that will enable them to report suspicious activity.

Facebook said it would first integrate those features on Instagram and Messenger in a few countries and then expand globally.

With the update, users can stay connected with their friends and family without deciding which app to use to communicate. Instagram users can decide if they want to update to the new

Now You Can Use Instagram to Chat With Friends on Facebook Messenger

SAN FRANCISCO — Facebook began allowing people to use the photo-sharing app Instagram and the messaging app Messenger to communicate with each other on Wednesday, as part of a planned integration of the social network’s major messaging applications.

With the changes, people who use Instagram can now send photo, video or text messages to those who use Facebook Messenger, and vice versa. The two apps had operated separately, with no direct communication between them. Facebook said it would also add roughly 10 features to Instagram that were previously exclusive to Messenger, such as group video watch sessions, an ephemeral messaging mode and “selfie stickers.”

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, announced last year that he planned to knit together the company’s three messaging apps, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, noting that more people were communicating privately online. That’s a marked difference from the early days of Facebook, when users publicly posted to
